Scout Shop closes on Jan. 31, 2020 - reopens as Council Trading Post after February 18

Attention REC-BSA Scouts, Scouters, and family members:

On January 31, 2020, National BSA Supply Group will be closing the Santa Rosa Scout Shop, along with several other smaller national stores across the country. In our local case, a replacement store will reopen as the Redwood Empire Council Trading Post, sometime around February 18-20, 2020.

As we approach this transition, there are several key points to keep in mind:

The first 18 days in February, the closest open store will be the Marin Trading Post in San Rafael or the National BSA Scout Shop in Pleasant Hill. During the first half of February, the national store in Santa Rosa will be shipping about two-thirds of its inventory to other locations.

Your council will be purchasing about one-third of the current Scout Shop inventory to stock the Council Trading Post. Because the council cannot afford to carry as large an inventory as a National Scout Shop, the new trading post inventory will be necessarily smaller. If you are needing any large amounts of items, the best time to purchase those may be now (January).

The Council Trading Post will continue to carry award badges, certificates, and pins (such as rank patches, parent pins, merit badges, belt loops, etc.), uniforms (including insignia, hats, slides, and neckerchiefs), handbooks, merit badge pamphlets, and a few other items common to the Scout experience (like BSA pocketknives and first aid kits).

BSA Supply items that will not be stocked by the council and are returning to BSA Supply warehouse include frames and mats, recognition plaques, t-shirts and theme hats, most camping items, backpacks, gift items, etc. These BSA items will still be available for online purchase, and for special order through the Trading Post.

The local Council Trading Post will not be accepting any returns on unused items (only exchanges for defective items). Be aware if your unit plans to return any unused item, that this needs to be done between now and January 31 (under the National Scout Shop return policy).

Currently, the Santa Rosa Scout Shop has a bunch of activity t-shirts that just went on clearance -- now is a great time to plan ahead for a gift or something for your Scout(s).

Consider now your needs for your Blue and Gold Dinner, Troop Court of Honor, or Scout Anniversary activities in February -- plan ahead for these purchases now. Come in January to let the Scout Shop staff help you get a bulk of what you need done in advance. Handbooks, neckerchiefs, slides, and ranks are in good supply right now.

Pinewood Derby is a seasonal item -- Come into the Scout Shop in January to get your derby cars, weights, and accessories while they are still available and plentiful.
