Redwood Empire Council accepting donations for replacing Scouts' and Scouters' uniforms

Within 72 hours of the news of the devastating fires in Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, and Lake Counties, friends in other councils who know Ray Leonard (VP Membership/Relationships) and Charlie Howard-Gibbon (Council Scout Executive) were asking Ray and Charlie how they could help replace uniforms for BSA members who lost their homes in the recent fires.  We believe that 70 to 100 BSA families are among many hundreds of residents whose lost everything in the fires beginning on October 9, 2017.

The Redwood Empire Council Membership/Relationships committee has set up an online giving page for this purpose on our council website.  Although our main focus is our Scouts and Scouters helping with the huge recovery effort now facing our communities, we appreciate far-away friends offering their financial support when they cannot be physically present to help with the tremendous local needs we are responding to.

If you or someone you know would like to help with the specific need of replacing uniforms, insignia, and merit badge sashes of the displaced Scouts and Scouters, you may make a tax-deductible donation through our online giving page.  A $50 donation will cover the cost of replacing a Cub Scout uniform shirt, neckerchief, and slide, $100 will cover the similar cost of a Boy Scout uniform shirt plus uniform pants, and $200 will allow us to also replace the merit badge sash and merit badges for one of our Eagle Scouts (or Scouts on the Eagle trail).

Special Assistance Fund (initially for uniforms of fire victims)

Specific details on how a displaced Scout or Scouter can secure a replacement uniform, insignia, or merit badge sash will be shared with the unit leaders and the affected families in the coming days.  Uniforms will be provided through the Santa Rosa Scout Shop with the council using donations to pay the cost of all standard items.
