Overview

Scouting continues to grow and thrive within our council for many reasons, not the least of which is funding. The Redwood Empire Council serves the following Northern Coastal California counties: Sonoma, Mendocino, Humboldt and Del Norte.

The Friends of Scouting campaign is an extensive annual campaign conducted annually among the parents of Scouts and volunteer leaders.  It raises dollars to support the Redwood Empire Council budget.  Friends of Scouting accounts for 38% of the income for the council and is used to support programs, training, facilities, camps, staff, communications and much more.

Each year the Redwood Empire Council spends over $150 per registered youth member, above and beyond national registration fee and local unit expenses, to maintain the needed support for the Scouting program to be offered to the community.

Family Friends

The Community Friends of Scouting campaign seeks financial donations that help provide Scouting to their community.   Business and corporations are asked to help us with our mission and many do.  We truly appreciate their support and encourage our members to patronize businesses that support Scouting.  Some help us with direct funding and others through "Matching Gifts" programs.  Contact us for more information or to contribute.

Community Friends

Families are the ones who see firsthand the benefit of Scouting for their child.  District and unit volunteers conduct the campaign in order to give all Scout families the opportunity to support the Scouting program. The Family Friends of Scouting Campaign gives the parents, relatives and friends of the Scouts in each Scout Unit the opportunity to make a financial contribution to the Redwood Empire Council of the Boy Scouts of America so they can in turn maintain the valuable programs which benefit every Scout in the Council.

Presentations are usually done at a Pack meeting, Scout meeting or event and an overview of the program is provided to the group. Every Scout Unit is expected to schedule a presentation as early in the year as possible.  All we ask is that you allow us to visit your unit.  A presentation lasts approximately 10 minutes.  Regardless of the amount of money raised by your unit, a presentation will make member families aware of the need to afford them the opportunity to become financially involved in the success of the program for our kids.

Our goal is to have 100% unit participation.  The business community is more likely to participate if they see a strong commitment made by the membership. Without you and your assistance, we would not have a Scouting program to offer the young men in our communities.  Your Scouts deserve nothing less than a quality program and that is the main focus of our collective mission.
